Hello Devs,

I see so many spams nowadays on this forum from “Customer Supports” and “Escort Girls”. It’s a real problem. Can’t you do something against it, like an automatic spam filter instead of reporting?

Or perhaps you have a better idea against it. Nevertheless you have to do something to stop the spam rogues 🙂

I was complaining about this 5 months ago.
It’s so bad I barely use this forum anymore.

Anyway, to answer your question, they’re apparently building a new forum. This should allow them to add more anti-spam measures. Mind you I’ve heard nothing about the progress of this new site so I’m unsure what’s going on.

Hey, so about the spam.

I don’t know if they’re bots or not, but they’re getting past the google captcha if they are.
Currently I’m the only one maintaining this place and I don’t have the time to be on here every day.

What you can do is reporting the spam. I will then get an email and will delete it as soon as I can.
That will sadly be it for now.

Work is still being done on the new forum though!
I’m not sure if there’s a real ETA already, but I think it should be in place in early 2019. (But please don’t hold us to that, it’s only being developed in our spare time)

Here’s a WIP screenshot though!

Why not use forumotion for this? I used to volunteer there around 2008, and I know they have a very good free forum software. I actually suggested the flood control feature back then and it was implemented there some time later.  And after that and few other updates, the forum became very clean (I’m talking about the english support forum they use, having 40k plus users with 300 to 1000 plus online anytime.

And yes, if you are halfway to making your new forum, no problems! You can use the custom css/assets you made for your new forum, and add them to your forumotion forum!

Because we originally started with vanilla based on someone’s suggestion. It’s decent but horrible at styling it. But we’ll manage, can’t really switch when we’re already halfway through, like you said.

Wow!  I really like how the new Brackeys forum is coming along!  I cant wait till it arrives!  I do hate all of those annoying spams that I try my best to work around but they keep on coming up.

Been a while since we’ve shown the work on the forum… Sorry!
We’ve been mostly doing work on the mobile end, as well as making sure the forum works with some new things introduced (new rich editor)

We don’t prefer the new editor but are practically forced into it by Vanilla…
We’re getting closer and closer tho!

Is it possible to make this open-source maybe on GitHub? I’m sure they’re some web developers like myself who would like to contribute when possible.

We are sorry it is taking such a long time, and sorry there were no updates. So the current state of the forum is that it’s mostly finished. The biggest things that aren’t done yet are mobile support and legal stuff.

We don’t have an ETA and realistically things will continue to be pretty slow in the development. The ones that are working on the forum work on it in their spare time when we feel like it, and vanilla forums isn’t that fun to work with. But recently we had a chat with the Brackeys Team about the forum and what needs to be done, so things *might* speed up a bit.

Also, I will bring up the open sourcing of the forum (well, the vanilla forums themes) with others, will post back here with new info of course.
