CryTek for their new release of Cryengine V has now said you can pay what you want and the pricing ranges from 2500 euros to 0 euros. CryEngine has also released C# as an optional programming language for developers who do not know C++ or scripting.

Yeah, it’s pretty cool!
The CryEngine is a real powerhouse, but the documentation is not as good as Unity’s.
A big plus though is that you can see and adapt all the source code of the engine too.
 
I should really take a look at it some day 😀

I have seen that  a large sum of documentation has been getting pushed out ( I do not know for sure but that is what I have seen posts of. )

If anyone’s interested a bunch of assets are going cheap on humble bundle. 
Is CryEngine any good for 2d games? and how would it rate against unity for 2d development?

CryEngine is doing indie grants every 3 months( if I remember right) but; I have read that Unity is the best option for 2d ( and also having the option for a 3d game ) ; so I would recommend(my own opinion) just to stick with Unity for 2d projects.

I just can say is , if you are interested you can try other engines for fun/trial . 
Just Stick to one engine , till you dont master it .( Not saying for all types of engines ) ( Stick only when you are using engine which is well maintained and perfect for what you doing )
