Hello everyone!

Exciting times here, because I uploaded a new update video!
Watch it here: https://youtu.be/Oadg8-SIuYM

In the video I show off that the multiplayer actually works, the updated map, an experimental feature and the biggest addition to the project yet!

Summary of the new stuff:

  • Netcode performance up by 40% by switching from binaryformatter to protobuff.
  • Better project organization. (Game and server now share a dll)
  • Ported to unity 5.
  • Main menu scene updated (Flying camera and no more Vortex Tower)
  • Updated the UI
  • A whole new world…
  • Server can now be started from in the game.

You can download this W.I.P. version here:

Hey guys!

So, I’ve been working a lot on my game lately.
I wanted to show what I’m up to.
Hopefully I can show off the multiplayer too soon.

So what’s this game about?
It’s a multiplayer first person shooter.

An fps? There are so many already! What’s gonna be different?
The difference will be that you are the commander of squads of bots. You can issue commands to them to e.g. take a certain position or capture a building. This can lead to very tactical, yet exciting gameplay. I can’t give exact details, as I still need to implement it in the game.

Also there’s a real war going on. When you want to engage in a battle, you’ve got to choose where. To do that you’ll see a map of the EU and the USA (the two countries that are at war) with many provinces. A province can be in the hands of the EU or the USA. The provinces are going to be large (for example: South England, Rühr area, North Texas, etc.). The country that wins the most battles in that province on the front in a certain amount of time, gets hold of that province. The goal? Take the capital of the enemy.

This province map will be shared between all the online players. So when you join the game, you need to join a country.

Can you show us a video?

Of course! Here’s a link 😉

I love the idea of this FPS really unique in what I think It looks good too 😀

And it’s just an idea but wouldn’t it be nice if you don’t start as commander but you really have to work yourself up in like a real army.

That was my idea too. You start of as a leader of a so-called fireteam (3-4 men), and then you can rank up to a squad leader (2-3 fireteams), etc.

Maybe a lame question for such a big project.
But is it going to take along before a demo or alpha comes because I would really love to try this game out!

Well, the problem is that in the current state, everything you do has to use the server. Also, I don’t have the money to put up a server for others…

I think I could put up an offline version soon(ish) if you’d like. But the only thing you can shoot at are the barrels XD

Looks and sounds really nice… How many hours have you put into this?

Looking forward to trying it. 🙂

How many hours?
Well… I’ve rewritten the multiplayer code twice….
I can’t count the hours. I started in August 2013. and then about 4 hours each week. You do the math 😉

Guru

Ok, I’ve done the math XD
Going with an average of 4 hours a week I calculated that I spent 312 hours on the project. But this is actually my first unity project, so that number includes all the experimentation.

Believe me if I say that writing muliplayer code takes a long time. Debugging it is a real pain!

Nice game I know my question is a long shot but would u be able to send me your multiplayer code if I put your name in the credits of my game.

I’m jealous as hell I’m only a beginner programmer but I’m worried I will never reach that level, like I can’t concentrate when I program something always distracts me.

I get my best coding done late at night, turn off the light, put on headphones with some music. Does the trick for me 😛

Another good tip is to not make something overly complicated. Stopping to watch/read a tutorial every 5 min is a pain in the butt 😛

Thanks 🙂

I would never thought that I could make even a simple game few years back. And here I am! I’ve just made pretty nice game which I’ll show you soon 😉
Anyways, believe and DO WANT to be a good programer 🙂

Good work! Sounds and looks like an interesting game.
It would be nice if you could se the player arms, it looks like the gun is hovering.

it looks like the gun is hovering. From ChristianEngvall

 Because it is XD

I’m a programmer at heart. I’m pretty happy with the graphics for now. But I really need some animations for the player.

Also, the multiplayer is *almost* playable! No points or scoreboard and stuff, but you’ll be able to shoot eachother! Exciting times! I think I’ll give an update on that when the time comes.

I like your player-lead robot squad idea. It’s the same idea I came up with for my own game, although mine’s not going to be a FPS. One of the ideas you have that I especially like is allowing the player to chose their starting point on the map, which is not usually the case with FPS. That adds a bit of strategy that I think will really add to the overall player experience. I wish my game was such that I could use this idea myself.

Dion

If u can make the Graphics higher I think is better also.

Additional: Add a Player not only the hand but the whole body and that will look more better
